Bill Russell

The Westmead Institute for Medical Research, Manager, Business Development, IP and Commercialisation

Bill is a partnership and business development manager with knowledge in brokering successful university, private sector and government collaborations. Bill has extensive experience leading engagement with key stakeholders, building strong interdisciplinary relationships and navigating the legal, financial and administrative arrangements necessary for mutually beneficial partnerships.

Underpinned by a strong academic, operational and technical background, I have a holistic perspective and am passionate about innovative research and industry partnering that improves health services, products and outcomes. I have held operational positions with universities, health districts and high technology manufacturers to deliver research and medical products and services.

Michael Powell

Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) & Sydney Children’s Hospital Network, IP and Commercialisation Manager

Michael is an outcome oriented business leader who specialises in strategy development and IP/R&D/innovation commercialisation for B2B/high tech products and services. He has wide-ranging experience in multiple markets including medical products, diagnostics and biopharmaceuticals.

Michael has a proven track record delivering results and is passionate about developing and implementing effective commercial strategies. His expertise in IP protection and commercialisation, knowledge and technology transfer, business model development and value generation has been honed in senior roles in public and private sector organisations in local and international markets.

Dr Julia Hill

Children’s Medical Research Institute (CMRI), Head of Commercialisation

Julia has over 20 years of experience in technology commercialisation. She has worked within Research Institutes and Universities, private and public biotechnology and medical companies, venture capital and corporate advisory firms.

Julia’s roles have spanned the commercialisation process from business development to investment manager/corporate advisory roles, COO roles within public listed companies and Director of start-up companies. She has a PhD in Embryology, EU and USA post-doctoral experience and an MBA from Melbourne Business School.

Dr Lilly Bojarski

Lilly is an experienced, passionate scientist who enjoys analysing data, developing, and communicating new ideas, as well as planning, and organising team projects. Since completing her PhD Lilly has broadened her scope to include business development and commercialisation experience.

Scott Lee

Children's Medical Research Institute, Commercialisation Officer

Scott is an enthusiastic and goal-oriented scientist with ambitious visions. He is passionate about technology commercialisation and bringing bench to bedside. Scott has experience in human stem cell and organoid research and is now focused on helping scientists create impact from their research through commercialisation activities.

Dr Julius Juarez

USYD, Commercial Theme Leader, Medicine & Health

Julius is a broadly skilled professional with extensive global experience working across the pharmaceutical industry (in Drug Discovery and Medical Affairs) and academic medical research sectors. He has proven collaborative leadership skills and experience in developing and directing medical/scientific strategies.

He is passionate about translating and commercialising innovative research and has led several successful industry-academic collaborations. He has worked across a number of therapeutic areas including Immunology, Gastroenterology, Haematology, Oncology and Virology. He has a PhD from The University of Sydney and was a Marie Curie Fellow at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden.
