The Westmead Histology Core facility provides state- of- the- art equipment for histological processing, cutting and histochemical staining. The platform provides full end-to-end services performed by specialist staff. We also provide access to laboratory equipment for users who would like to “ do it yourself” after completing comprehensive training. Our professional expert staff are also available to assist with project planning, troubleshooting and protocol development. The Westmead Histology Core Facility is committed to providing an efficient, cost effective and high quality histology services for researchers at Westmead and beyond.

Our capabilities include
- Tissue processing for formalin fixed paraffin tissue using four established protocols and subsequent embedding.
- Microtomy for paraffin-embedded tissue.
- Cryo-sectioning.
- Automated slide and cassette labelling.
- Routine Haematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stain.
- Selection of histochemical special stains
- Procedure and equipment training.
- Assist with project planning and protocol development.
